A Couple of Years ago the Youth Forum created a pack called the PADL (Promoting Active Democracy Loudly) pack. This was designed to encourage democracy and participation in schools, and contained a section on how school councils should work, how best to structure them and set them up. Also included was a set of criteria for awarding school councils at a Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum level.

Over time schools have been assessed and awarded by young people. The assessment of many secondary schools have successfully taken place.

Schools have the following awards:

> Cape Cornwall - Bronze Award

> Helston Community College - Bronze Award

> Humphry Davy School - Bronze Award

> Mounts Bay School - Bronze and Silver Award

> Penryn College - Bronze Award

> St. Ives School - Bronze Award

Also many primary schools have also been awarded PADL awards (one even going up to Gold standard), and this too has been a great achievement. A lot of thanks goes out to the children’s fund who have been running the primary PADL awards.
