MYPs feature on BBC South West Politics Show after Speakers Visit (2128 Sunday, 14th February 2010)
Member of Youth Parliament, Rowan Milligan (West MYP) and Katie McMahon (Mid DMYP) were featured on todays SW Politics Show after the Speaker of the House of Common's attendance at the Feedback Day on Thursday.
The Speaker spoke about his desire to visit as many young people as possible for they are ‘the future of our politics.’ He wanted the show the ‘politics matters’ and that ‘democracy is all about engagement.’
The Members of Youth Parliament were given the opportunity to talk to the Speaker about the issues that concerned them and the role of a Member of Youth Parliament.
Joe Vinson, Mid Cornwall MYP, said ‘It was a great to talk to the Speaker about the issues that we face as Members of the Youth Parliament. There is the stereotypical image that all MYPs are from one singular background and do not represent young people, when in fact the statistics suggest the complete opposite.’ Joe added that ‘We would like to thank the Speaker for visiting our event and making such a valuable contribution to the day.’
